By downloading, installing, or using Shieldie Mail, you agree to these Terms of Service. Please read them carefully before using the application.
1. Acceptance of Terms
These Terms of Service ("Terms") constitute a legally binding agreement between you ("User", "you") and Shieldie ("we", "us", "our") governing your use of the Shieldie Mail desktop application ("the App") and related services. By using the App, you confirm that you accept these Terms and agree to comply with them. If you do not agree, you must not use the App.
2. Description of Service
Shieldie Mail is a desktop email client application available for macOS, Linux, and Windows. The App provides:
- Email management via standard IMAP and SMTP protocols
- AI-powered threat scanning for phishing, malware, and suspicious content
- Multi-account email support
- Local email caching and offline access
3. Eligibility
You must be at least 16 years of age to use the App. By using the App, you represent and warrant that you meet this age requirement and have the legal capacity to enter into these Terms.
4. Account and Credentials
The App requires you to provide your email account credentials (username, password, server settings) to connect to your email provider. You are responsible for:
- The accuracy of the credentials and configuration you provide
- Maintaining the security of your device and operating system
- All activity that occurs through the App using your email accounts
- Compliance with your email provider's terms of service
We do not store your credentials on our servers. All credentials are stored locally on your device in encrypted form.
5. AI Threat Scanning
The App includes an AI-powered threat scanning feature. By using this feature, you acknowledge that:
- Email content is sent to the Shieldie AI API for real-time analysis
- Threat detection is provided on a best-effort basis and may not catch every threat
- Scan results are informational — the App does not automatically delete or block emails
- You should exercise your own judgment before interacting with any email, regardless of scan results
- You may disable threat scanning at any time in the App settings
6. License
Subject to your compliance with these Terms, we grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to download, install, and use the App on devices that you own or control, for personal or internal business purposes.
You may not:
- Copy, modify, distribute, sell, or lease any part of the App
- Reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble the App
- Remove or alter any proprietary notices, labels, or marks
- Use the App for any unlawful purpose or in violation of any applicable laws
- Attempt to gain unauthorized access to the Shieldie AI API or related infrastructure
7. Acceptable Use
You agree not to use the App to:
- Send spam, phishing emails, or other unsolicited bulk communications
- Distribute malware, viruses, or other harmful software
- Harass, threaten, or harm other individuals
- Violate any applicable local, national, or international law or regulation
- Interfere with or disrupt the Shieldie AI API or related services
8. Intellectual Property
The App, including its design, code, graphics, logos, and the Shieldie name, is the intellectual property of Shieldie and is protected by copyright, trademark, and other applicable laws. These Terms do not grant you any rights to our trademarks or branding.
9. Updates
We may release updates to the App from time to time. These updates may include bug fixes, new features, or security patches. While updates are not mandatory, we strongly recommend keeping the App up to date to ensure optimal security and performance. Continued use of outdated versions is at your own risk.
10. Disclaimer of Warranties
The App is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, either express or implied, including but not limited to:
- Merchantability or fitness for a particular purpose
- That the App will be uninterrupted, error-free, or secure
- That threat scanning will detect all malicious content
- That the App will be compatible with all email providers
11. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Shieldie shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including but not limited to:
- Loss of data, emails, or attachments
- Unauthorized access to your accounts resulting from device compromise
- Damages arising from reliance on threat scanning results
- Service interruptions or API unavailability
- Any damages arising from the use or inability to use the App
In no event shall our total liability exceed the amount you paid for the App in the twelve (12) months preceding the claim, or fifty euros (EUR 50), whichever is greater.
12. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless Shieldie and its officers, directors, employees, and agents from any claims, damages, losses, or expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your use of the App or violation of these Terms.
13. Termination
We may suspend or terminate your access to the App or the Shieldie AI API at any time, with or without notice, if we believe you have violated these Terms. Upon termination:
- Your license to use the App is immediately revoked
- You must uninstall and delete all copies of the App
- Locally stored data remains on your device until you remove it
You may terminate this agreement at any time by uninstalling the App.
14. Changes to These Terms
We reserve the right to modify these Terms at any time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last updated" date. Material changes may also be communicated through the App. Your continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
15. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the European Union and the applicable national laws of the jurisdiction in which Shieldie is established, without regard to conflict of law provisions.
16. Severability
If any provision of these Terms is found to be invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions shall remain in full force and effect.
